Market Landscape: Prospector

Prospector


The Prospector is an extremely strong tool on the belt of sales and marketing teams. The module can be used to segment the academic market and find specific researchers who fit the segment you have defined. You set the prospector to different views, which each show a different type of data. The following are available:
Author
Grant
Paper
Institute

Filters


You will have access to many different filters that you can apply to only retrieve results of your interest.

Generic filters
Segments, include or exclude results matching a specific segment. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Lists, include or exclude the items in a list. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Institutes, include or exclude institutes by name. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Countries, include or exclude results coming from specific geographical locations
Regions, include or exclude a geographical region. This is a collection of multiple countries.
Keywords, apply a search to the keywords of a paper.
Date, include only items matching a specific date range.

Paper, author and institute only filters
Authors, include or exclude authors by name.
Fields of study, include or exclude fields of study. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Journals, include or exclude journals by name. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Conferences, include or exclude a conference by name. This will filter for the specific edition of the conference. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Conference Series, include or exclude multiple conferences by by their series name. A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.

Grant filters
Funding Organization, include or exclude a funding organization (such as NIH, UKRI or Cordis). A dropdown with options will appear once you start typing.
Principal Investigators, include principal investigators by name.
Budget, select a currency and choose a range of budget you are interested in. Multiple checkboxes can be checked at once.

Results


Once you have applied the filters you need, you can start looking into your results which appear on the right-side of the screen. This screen shows a paginated list of items, each page contains 10 items and you can navigate through the pages on the bottom of the screen. Each item has its own card which shows a summary of the data. For example, an author card shows the name, affiliation, country, number of matched papers and the exactly matched terms of your segment.
You can click on a card to see more details and context. such as the author's published papers, received grants, collaborators and other statistics.

Exporting


You can export the results of a prospector search using the export button. Here you can assign a name, select the export type, set the amount of results to include and review the number of credits that will be spend. Exports can take some time to complete, you can monitor their progress in the Export Center. Please refer to the article on the Export Center for more details about exporting.
